About the Item
Vintage adzed oak coffee table by Thomas 'Gnomeman' Whittaker of Littlebeck (1910-1991) Circa 1960.
Thomas Whittaker made the gnome his craft signature, chosen from a Nordic legend which states that whenever an acorn germinates, a gnome is born as its guardian, remaining with it for life.
This handcrafted table is made in solid English oak, and stands on slab tapering sides with peg construction. The adzed decoration is all over.
It has been sympathetically re-finished by hand in a durable finish with a smooth finish, retaining a few very light authentic marks to highlight its genuine heritage. The top has a shrinkage opening to one side making this slightly raised as shown in the photographs.
