18th Century, Italian Neoclassical Lacquered and Giltwood Console Table

About the Item

Italian neoclassical half-moon lacquered and giltwood console table with white marble top Italy, Naples, 18th century This elegant console table, in finely carved, lacquered and gilded wood, fully represents the taste that prevailed in Italy at Naples at the end of the 18th century, in the neoclassical era. The half-moon furniture has a white marble top. The band below presents refined carvings with golden decorations of neoclassical taste in floral and vegetal form inscribed in elegant frames and reserves. At the centre a large decoration with concentric circles encloses a large flower. Laterally there are some particular inlays with a mask with oriental features crowned by a leafy ramage and ribbons. The four legs, which evoke tapered columns of Classic taste, have a capital head and a conical body, with golden decorations with phytomorphic motifs, which tightens towards the feet to circular section. In the important Italian palaces, from the 17th century and then throughout the 18th century, the consoles were among the most sought-after furnishings, emblem of the richness of the client, to show off in the spacious halls of representation. This type of highly decorative furniture is still today of great scenic effect and contributes to the elegance and refinement of every room that hosts it, whether modern or antique.

  • 18th Century, Pair of Italian Neoclassical Lacquered and Giltwood Consoles
    Located in IT
18th century, pair of Italian neoclassical lacquered and giltwood consoles This pair of consoles was made in the second half of the 18th century in the neoclassical era, in Naples (Italy) The carved and lacquered wooden consoles are composed of two half-moon tops lacquered with fake jasper. The band below the floor is sculpted in the ways of Classic grooved friezes, lacquered with light color and gold. The four legs are also grooved lacquered and golden and end in quadrangular feet. These consoles are very elegant and refined for the simplicity of their line and color. Consoles with two shelves are also quite rare. These allow greater flexibility in their use: in fact, in the lower shelf it is possible to expose, for example, vases with flowers, porcelain, books or other decorative objects in addition to what is placed above or offend the ability to lighten the top floor from too many objects. For their small size and especially for the particular depth of the floors, very narrow, and for the distinctly decorative character, these consoles are easily inserted in any environment. They are in fact perfect in the entrances or in the corridors, in a living room or a study, exposed in pairs or individually. The light color also makes them pleasant next to antique and modern furniture.
