Contemporary Anodized Aluminium Console by Fredrik Paulsen
About the Item
Fredrik Paulsen’s console table, commissioned by Etage Projects for Salon Art + Design New York 2017, turns the spotlight on a brand new and unique technique that combines anodized aluminium with his signature rainbow tie-dye we know from the Prism series.
Process explained by Fredrik Paulsen:
1. "First I take all the aluminium parts to a company to open up the surface grains of the aluminium. This is made in several chemical baths with electricity and takes 4 hours."
2. "??????When the grains are open I have a couple of hours to apply pigment before the aluminium needs to go in the fixation bath. Now I bring them to my studio and treat them in the exact same way as I do when I tie-dye the wooden works."
3. "Now all the parts needs to go back to the anodization place to seal the surface grains. This is made in a boiling bath for 40 minutes."
