Chinese Cloud Spandrel Altar Table, c. 1900

About the Item

This late 19th-century Chinese altar table expresses Ming-dynasty tastes with clean lines and a simple silhouette. Minimally decorated, the table is constructed with straight legs and double stretchers. The legs meet at beautifully stylized spandrels carved in the form of auspicious clouds outlined with a beaded edge. This table charms with an open-grained texture and warm black-brown lacquer with an unexpected, elegant pink hue. Originally used as a home altar for ancestor worship, this long table blends into modern interiors perfectly. Additional Dimensions: Table Apron to Floor: 28.5"
