Emmanuel Outy , "EOC-1" Console, 2021 - Marble Stucco
About the Item
The EOC-1 Console in Marble stucco is a unique piece, the result of a collaboration between the designer Emmanuel Outy and the artist Amandine Antunez from the AA Matière workshop.
Marble stucco is a know-how that appeared in Italy in the 17th century and whose technique Amandine Antunez learned from a French specialist, then developed her own practice/experience.
In order to free herself from synthetic pigments from the petrochemical industry, Amandine gleans plant materials around her workshop in the south of France, then extracts the pigments herself.
In search of a sustainable process, the harvesting of these materials, local and seasonal, is enhanced by a collaboration with Tellem, a manual printing workshop with natural colors.
Mixed with the plaster, and worked over several passes, the extracted color / tannins reveal a natural material sensitive to delicate nuances. The console made for the gallery is composed of the following elements:
Traditional plaster of Paris, natural glue, Persicaire leaves (Indigo), Madder roots (Rose), Mimosa flowers (Yellow), Celandine whole plant (Yellow), Rumex leaves (green).
About Emmanuel Outy
A keen draftsman, Emmanuel Outy spent his childhood between Brittany and the French Riviera, in a family - notably his grandfather - that was highly attuned to the arts. Soon after graduating from LISAA Rennes in 2003, this architect and designer, who greatly admires Auguste Perret, Adolf Loos and Jean Prouvé, as well as Japanese architecture and the work of the Bouroullec brothers, was featured at the Maison & Objet trade fair and joined Eric Gizard’s design agency.
During the highly formative ten years he spent with Eric Gizard, Emmanuel Outy learned about every aspect involved in the creation of prestigious worksites, both in France and abroad. These included projects for private homes, hotels, luxury boutiques and tapestries for the French Mobilier National. It was an exciting experience on the fluidity among spaces and furniture / objects and about ongoing dialogues with artisans and manufacturers - one that he has continued solo since 2012 after launching his own studio: YDSGN.
While Emmanuel Outy admittedly “cultivates humility and discretion”, he has now stepped up ; after creating custom pieces for private clients for years, he is now about to unveil his very first collection, for signé. These are virtually “calligraphed” pieces, with precise curves, a quasi-monastic touch and unrivalled comfort, produced by exceptional master craftsmen - works that clearly and quietly stand out as sensual micro-architectures.
