French Grey-Painted Marble & Stone Console Table, Owned by Lee Radziwill

About the Item

This stunning French console with a shaped breche d' alep marble top above elegant stone foliate carved supports was prominently displayed in Lee Radziwill's London residence for many years (see picture of the console off the main salon in her home). You can own a piece of history in the form of this beautiful piece, which was acquired through Christie's auction house. The Collection of Lee Bouvier Radziwill was a highlight of Christie's Collector Week sales in New York in 2019. Caroline Lee Bouvier, later Canfield, Radziwill, and Ross, was an American socialite, public relations executive, princess, interior decorator and style icon. She was the younger sister of Jacqueline Bouvier Kennedy Onassis and sister-in-law of President John F. Kennedy. Breche d’lep marble was first quarried in France in 1712. It was a premier marble, used to adorn furnishings and fireplaces well into the 1800s. The quarries were widely depleted making it all but extinct, and thus quite rare.
