Italian Baroque Carved Wood Console Siena Marble Top Encrusted Nautilus Fossils
About the Item
A truly beautiful Italian carved console with a Siena marble top. It dates from the 18th century although it has undergone a significant restoration that has stabilized it and strengthened it. The Siena marble top is magnificent with encrusted Fossilized Nautilus shells. I count 2 distinct ones and a few partial. The marble is thick, at approximately 1.25 inches. There are a few chips to the top, which considering its age is understandable. One small one in front and along both back corners, all pictured. The wood of the console has been stabilized with a new back slat and a stabilizing back to the original carved wood side, please see the detailed photos.
There are losses to the carved wood parts and losses to the painted surfaces as well.
