About the Item

A solid mahogany hall console table or writing desk from the Williamsburg Adaptation collection by Kittinger Furniture Company of NY. This mahogany console table features a center drawer with four square legs with Chippendale fretwork attaching the leg to the table apron. The interior drawer has solid oak dovetailed sides and four original solid brass batwing Chippendale pulls. Manufacturer’s Label - Kittinger Furniture Company and Collection Stamp: (A Williamsburg Adaption Kittinger) on interior of drawer. The table was reproduced from a Virginia Chippendale antique, circa 1750-1775. Can be used as a dressing table, small desk or a side/serving table. Condition report: Solid and sturdy construction. Overall good original vintage condition, with a beautiful rich patina. No noticeable defects wear consistent with age. In 1937 in conjunction with Colonial Williamsburg Kittinger Furniture was licensed to reproduce and adapt pieces for its collection from 1937-1990. During this period, Kittinger Furniture reproduced more than 200 pieces for Colonial Williamsburg. In addition, they have provided furniture or the White House and foreign heads of state since the 1960s. The attention to detail with Kittinger furniture is second to none. Many of these items feature exacting details that make these items as close as possible to the period original in which they are being reproduced. The attention to detail starts with the best wood selection, best woodworkers and skilled craftsmen, great quality carved details, top quality choice of exacting hardware, rose head nails, hand dovetailed joinery, hand chamfered drawers and then a highly complex finish that is rarely duplicated outside of the factory. These are handcrafted and finished works of art with each piece having its own distinct character or story. In truth, no two Kittinger pieces are exactly the same.
