About the Item

A rare and important pair of French Mid-Century Modern Consoles / Sofa Tables Attributed to Mathieu Mategot. The pieces are typical of Mategot and composed of perforated steel and enameled black; they are set upon architectural bases formed by 3 tapered legs and several, angled and cross-braced stretchers which create a stunning composition. The tops are in perforated steel which allows a full transparent, modern sensibility. Thus, one can enjoy the full beauty of the construction of the pieces. H 29.5 x W 35.5 x D 17..88. Mathieu Mategot was the most innovative and important designer of iron furniture in France in the 1950 period. His work was a radical departure from the neoclassical designs of the 1940 period, both in style and means of production.
