Prestigious gilded wrought iron console table; it was conceived and designed by the famous designer Pier Luigi Colli, made between 1950 and 1953 by Crystal Art, an old Turin company founded in 1944 and active in the field of furniture and in particular of furnishing accessories, also famous for the excellent workmanship of crystal and mirrors. Thick iron bars have been used in the console, hammered, then bent and welded together and finished with decorations following the elaborate design of the artist Pier Luigi Colli, finally, the whole has been subjected to strong gilding to give preciousness and brightness to the iron; to complete aesthetically such an aggressive realization, the designer has made the top with a free-form hammered crystal, which despite being massive and heavy gives breath and lightness to the entire structure. Pier Luigi Colli (1895-1968) studied at the Ecole des Arts Decoratifs in Paris and returned to Italy in the 1920s to lead the Colli family furniture business. Influenced by Parisian style and Art Deco Pier Luigi Colli created designs that show reinterpretations of those elegant movements. The Colli company had been active in Turin since 1850 and was famous for its fine woven carpets and lighting that included Seguso and Murano Glass. Colli's creations combine in unique ways materials such as iron, crystal, brass, glass, and wood, but the company is remembered for its most important designer: Pier Luigi Colli. Colli's style is characterized by meticulous craftsmanship of the surfaces of the objects, in fact, wood and metal are treated with minute geometric carvings as well as knurling, engravings, and grooves. Particularly appreciated by the public were the wrought and gilded iron furniture with which consoles, chairs, bedside tables, and mirrors were made. The surface of the iron was finely decorated with carvings and arabesques under the careful and scrupulous direction of Colli himself and the result was of strong decorative impact. His designer, the qualitative excellence of his products, and his eclectic style have been appreciated all over the world and are still appreciated today. Our console table has become an icon in the range of Pier Luigi Colli's production, an exclusive object with a unique and incomparable charm! It is presented in perfect condition.
