Walnut Veneer Console with Brass Trim
About the Item
This classic Art Deco console is a contemporary piece based on a vintage French Art Deco design. Hungarian furniture makers mastered the art of making veneered furniture as early as the Biedermeier Period (in the early 1800's). They thrived through the interwar period, perfecting streamlined Art Deco designs, which originated in France. Many examples survived until the early 2000's, mostly in Budapest but also in Romania and some are now recreated in select surviving ateliers. The piece is sophisticated and polished and yet simple enough to find a home in a contemporary entry hall or dining room. It has a thick top with arched legs terminating in a brass band at the bottom. The trapezoidal wood base gives substance to the design and rigid support.
