About the Item
Provenance
The present sideboard was purchased by Albert Edward John (1892-1975), 7th Earl Spencer. The 7th Earl was the paternal grandfather of Diana, Princess of Wales and is known as the “Curator Earl” for his deep and involved interest in the vast Spencer family collections. In his painstaking, scholarly inventory of the collections, the Curator Earl indicated that he purchased this sideboard in 1928 from Susanna, Duchess of Grafton who had used it in the dining room of Harlestone House.
