About the Item

Fine pair of matched neoclassical Adamesque painted and ormolu bronze mounted demilune console tables. Each frieze centering a gilt bronze neoclassical urn flanked by swags of floral garlands and bows. The four elegant legs mounted with additional garland on three sides, tapering to gilt spade feet. Each console is surmounted by a fitted monochrome scagliola inlay marble top. Decorated with neoclassical urn and garland swags to mirror the frieze below. The back of the marble tops having a half fan design at the center. Excellent joinery and craftsmanship with a beautifully aged patina. Some newer hardware and old repairs to finish commensurate age and use. The lacquer has a lovely aged craquelure finish. Dramatic to behold in person. From an estate in Bel Air, CA. Neoclassical style is marked by clean lines, muted colors, and a matched symmetry of both furnishings and appointments. It is largely inspired by the motifs of Ancient Roman and Greek art and architecture. Dating to the 18th century, the neoclassical aesthetic was notable primarily for its timelessness, sophistication, and luxuriousness. There are many subsets of the style, such as Adams, but each pays homage to the principles of durability, utility and beauty. Quality materials such as marble, silk, and fine woods are often used to express refined taste. Repaired: Repairs and reinforcements to some legs with newer modern nails. Only visible from under the consoles. Wear consistent with age and use. Excellent joinery and craftsmanship with age appropriate wear. Beautifully aged patina with old repairs on the finish as seen in photos.
