16th Century Spanish Walnut Writing Table, Circa 1580

About the Item

An impressive and illustrated 16th century Spanish walnut writing table, exemplifying unparalleled craftsmanship. The exquisite detailing on the legs, stretchers, and even on the bottom of the table top reveals the profound artistry that characterised the era. The well-preserved, aged patina adds to its allure, imparting a sense of charm and authenticity that only centuries of history can bestow. This piece not only serves as a functional writing table but also doubles as an awe-inspiring display of art and history, making it a perfect addition to any distinguished interior. Whereas almost all tables of this type use four screws in total to connect the legs to the top, this example features six. This table also consists of an unusual locking system for the metal supports, which would have made it easier to fold the table down for travel. In addition, faceted panels have been constructed to the underside of the top, perhaps as a decorative strengthening feature. Measuring 125m wide, this Spanish Renaissance writing table boasts a spacious writing surface that encourages creativity and productivity. Owning this remarkable piece means owning a piece of history, as it has withstood the test of time, witnessing countless stories and generations. Whether placed in a traditional study, sophisticated office, or as a standout statement piece in a contemporary setting, this 16th-century table is sure to captivate and leave an indelible impression. Illustrated: L. Feduchi, El Mueble Español, Barcelona, Ediciones Poligrafa, Biblioteca De Arte Hispanico, 1969; page 112, fig. 82.
