About the Item

Bring a touch of French provincial charm to your home with this elegant antique slant-top desk. Crafted in France circa 1790, the petite lectern is built of solid fruitwood and stands on four straight legs connected with double stretchers for stability. The slanted top lifts to reveal ample interior storage, ideal for keeping books, letters, or documents neatly tucked away. The front is richly carved with scrolling foliate motifs, while the surface is embellished with a shaped and scalloped gallery back, lending a refined silhouette to the piece. The original iron lock plate remains intact, adding authenticity and character. This charming 18th-century writing cabinet is in excellent condition commensurate with age and use, and features a warm walnut patina enhanced by natural wear and age. Versatile and compact, it would make a handsome addition to a study, library, or entryway as a lectern, side desk, or display stand. Measures: 26” W x 20” D x 26.5” H.
