At first, he set up his workshop on rue du Faubourg Saint Antoine, then moved to rue du Bac until the end of his career as a cabinetmaker.  His work is mainly characterized by furniture in the Louis XVI style, but there are also very beautiful pieces of furniture in the Transition style. We find many small pieces of furniture very architectural: small tables type game tables, tea tables, writing tables, but also travel desks, corner tables, dressing tables, toilet kits ... Meticulous, he distinguishes himself in the luxury cabinet making. He used precious wood species with furniture made of mahogany and rosewood veneer. He is known in particular for his rosette marquetry decorations on a yellow wood background (lemon tree or tinted maple). Very close to the cabinetmaker Martin Carlin, he also collaborates with the tablemaker Compigné who decorates some of his furniture with painting under glass. CRAMER's furniture can be found in the Louvre Museum and the Nissim de Camondo Museum in Paris. >> What is a "Bonheur du jour" / "Happiness of the day" ? This small piece of furniture appeared in the 18th century during the Transition period. Originally, it called itself "small table with gallery", or "high gallery writing desk", but these names were quickly forgotten. Indeed, the "Happiness of the day" being a piece of furniture provided with drawers and sometimes with various small hiding places, the ladies of the time could hide letters and small objects there which were their "happiness of the day".
