About the Item

This elegant fall-front desk dates to around 1730 and is veneered with a beautiful marquetry of walnut and walnut root on a pinewood corpus. The piece displays a fine interplay of warm tones, refined curves and harmonious proportions typical of the transitional Louis XV Baroque period, combining elegance, craftsmanship and utility. All three locks and the decorative brass fittings are original from that time and fully functional. The writing surface was re-leathered at a later date and shows light, authentic signs of age and use. The secretaire is in very good restored condition and can be separated into an upper and lower section for easy transport and secure placement.
