About the Item

A wonderful characterful late 18th century portable painted carved oak bureau or bible box on a stand. There is carved detail throughout, in a mainly floral style with some reeded ornate shaped carvings to the base. The top with moulded edge and chip carving to the sides. The fall front with the original hinges and a large handsome iron lock plate, enclosing a partitioned interior housing pigeon holes. The base has an arrangement of two long drawers. Each drawer has lovely brass tear drop handles as well as brass backplates. Raised on bun feet. Stunning colour and patina.
