About the Item

Add warmth and elegance to your office or study with this fine antique writing table from the Poitou region of France, circa 1890. Hand-crafted from solid wild cherry, the generous partner’s desk rests on graceful cabriole legs, each adorned with acanthus leaf motifs at the knees and ending in scrolled feet. The shaped apron features soft scalloped contours typical of the Louis XV period, lending the piece an air of refinement from every angle. Each side is richly decorated: the front fitted with four drawers having raised panel fronts and round brass pulls, and the reverse beautifully carved with floral garlands, scallop shells, and foliage sprays, allowing the desk to float in the center of a room. The top is inset with its original tan leather writing surface, detailed with gold-embossed tooling and a central arabesque motif. This exceptional late-19th-century French bureau retains its warm, honeyed cherry patina and is in excellent condition commensurate with age and use. Elegant yet functional, it would make a striking centerpiece in a refined study, library, or executive office. Measures: 64.5″ W × 28.75″ D × 31.25″ H.

This elegant, antique fruit wood sideboard was carved in Southern France, circa 1880. The Classic sideboard exemplifies the Louis XV style with a heavy presence, dramatic lines and intricate floral and foliage carvings throughout. The cabinet stands on small cabriole legs ending with escargot feet, over a scalloped apron heavily decorated with a center urn filled with floral and leaf motifs. The cabinet features a pair of drawers across the front dressed with heavy forged iron handles and matching escutcheons (and two fake drawers at the end!), over hand carved laurel and oak branch decor.
