19th Century Louis XVI Style Leather Top Writing Table / Bureau Plat

About the Item

A 19th century Louis XVI style French writing table or desk, known as a "bureau plat”. It has a leather top writing surface, ormolu bronze details, and three locking drawers with false drawer fronts on the opposite side of the table. Two keys are included - one key opens the center and left drawers, the second key opens the drawer on the right. Was this right hand drawer for securing more private papers - the key carried by the owner at all times? Structurally very solid, in overall good condition. The leather top has marks and scratches (see photos).
