New York Meeks & Sons Writing Table in Plum Mahogany with Leather, circa 1840

About the Item

A very handsome American Rococo Revival writing table in fine plum mahogany attributable to well-known New York City cabinet maker, Joseph Meeks & Sons. Features inset leather top with tooled border, well-articulated gadrooning along table edge, two drawers and resting on a carved trestle base with scrolled feet and a rope-turned stretcher, with exquisite carving throughout that includes scallop shells, rosettes & acanthus foliage. Working locks and key, circa 1840. Measures: 35" wide x 24" deep x 31" high 29 1/2" from floor to writing surface.\ Note: You should always request a shipping quote.     Refinished. Wear consistent with age and use. Restored in our workshop with some veneer replacement & minor repairs & refinished with French polish. Table is in VERY GOOD overall condition. Two front drawers have working locks and keys, with inset leather top with gold, tooled border.
