19th century Swedish elm and birch escritoire writing desk

About the Item

19th century Swedish elm and birch escritoire writing desk circa 1870. Superb quality Scandinavian birch and elm writing desk with drawers. This piece features birch sides and top surface, with elm drawers and fall, which continues for the interior.  Top shaped drawer, with the fall directly below, which forms the writing surface, fully fitted interior with central tabernacle, flanked either side by a bank of drawers and a further drawer below.  Further 3 drawers below, all opening on the key and with leather embossed escutheon.  Ebonised moulding to the sides complement the ebonised shaped feet. Rich golden colour, re-finished in our workshop and ready for everyday use. 1 small loss to leather escutheon. 1 old restoration to the back of 1 side, very minor evidence of long dead, treated worm. Minor restorations to woodwork.
