About the Item
19th century French Carved Secretary Petite Writing Desk Barley Twist Louis XIII.
Direct from France, a beautifully appointed petite drop front walnut secretary/writing desk!
With its outstanding profile, this piece is an excellent choice for placement throughout your home, from foyer to living area, as a bedside cabinet, and of course, in a library of home office.
The gorgeous, paneled drop front features French floral and foliate carvings, with carved scale trim to either side.
Lower desk has barley twist Corinthian column legs on all sides, and the silhouette is further defined with three carved baluster legs that extend from upper carved arch panels to the beveled trestle below.
Other features include a full-length front drawer with carved front panel, and wide, carved ogee moulding to the top.
Quality throughout with dovetailed drawer; well built by craftsmen of the period, circa1890.
Measurements:
49” ht. x 29.5” x 18.25”.
Flat writing area when opened, 24” x 13.75”.

~ Elaborately hand carved crown with large center cartouche
~ Look at the interior back panels, there are two large carved medallions that perfectly compliment the crown piece!
~ Barley twist posts on either side of the glass door
~ Barley twist legs on all four sides of the open shelf lower cabinet, with carved block joints
