This is an antique lady's writing desk. A French, mahogany and marble roll top bureaux, dating to the Victorian period, circa 1850. Striking craftsmanship, fine materials and a delightful form enhance this quality desk Displays a desirable aged patina and in good order throughout Select stocks present exceptional caramel hues and fine grain interest Captivating, rouge marble display plinth with a three-quarter brass gallery Trio of drawers to the upper section, of field panel finish and accessed by brass drop handles Roll top tambour activated by opening the main drawer, redolent of Riesener's furniture a century earlier Two-piece folding skiver rotates to rest upon the drawer edge with a brass protective rail Brass lock escutcheon to fascia in ornate form, between a pair of drop handles — key absent Dressed in a superb bright green baize, with a working height of 72cm (28.25'') at the middle Storage provided beneath the upper half of the skiver, ideal for paper documents Beyond, an enclosed pen tray with a pair of glass ink wells, and above a trio of internal drawers Fascinating brass inlays border distinctive, knurled brass cappings tracing the edge of the desk Concentric brass knees to each corner above elegant tapering legs with gadrooned finish Standing upon a quartet of brass toes with collared mounts This is a desirable antique lady's writing desk, with beautiful French craftsmanship and making use of fine materials to accentuate the appealing form.
