About the Item

A smart and very well made antique Victorian writing table / desk. This was made in England, it dates from around the 1860-1880 period. This is of wonderful quality and is a very useful size. It stands on beautifully turned legs terminating in brass casters, there are two drawers with nicely turned handles and fine, hand cut dovetailed joints. There is an inset leather top with gold tooled edges, the leather has a beautiful colour which compliments the wood nicely. There are also inlaid borders of ebony around the top edge and drawer fronts, which is a lovely and unusual feature. We have had this recently re-polished, it is in excellent condition for its age, with a gorgeous all round patina. There is one very small hole in one drawer bottom, likely from where a knot in the wood has fallen through, which is quite natural.
