About the Item

The 'Bocconi' desk and chair, designed by Giuseppe Pagano Pogatschnig in 1939, have been fully refurbished, restoring them to their original splendor. The desk and chair have been refinished with a fresh lacquer, enhancing their sleek, modernist appearance. Additionally, the aluminum handles have been re-chromed, bringing back their original luster. These design pieces were originally crafted for the Università Bocconi in Milan and remain unique due to their limited production. This restoration has preserved the high-quality craftsmanship and functional beauty, making them exceptional examples of mid-20th-century Italian design. About the artist: Pogatschnig, who had attended the Italian-language lyceum in Trieste, fled to Italy in 1914 and served in the Italian army during the First World War as a volunteer with an Austrian passport, taking the Italian translation of his Croatian surname Pogatschnig (= the heather) as his surname: Pagano. In 1943, he joined the Resistenza and was arrested in November 1943. After escaping from prison in Brescia, he was arrested again in 1944 and sent to the Mauthausen concentration camp, where he died shortly before the end of the war.
