Chinoiserie Imperial Red English Writing Partners Desk / Library Table, 19th C
About the Item
This Elegant English Chinoiserie Partners Writing Desk / Library Table with Exotic Scenes is Japanned in Imperial Red Lacquer. The Chinoiserie Library Table has a rich antique patina and was made in the last quarter of the nineteenth century. The Japanned writing surface has a central cartouche with three figures surrounded by pagodas, birds and trees. The writing surface is also framed with a lattice jasmine design and six block rosettes corresponding with the legs. The desks drawers and ends are decorated with class Chinoiserie designs. The Writing Desk has six decorated on all sides with a Chinese chain motif and finished in a spade foot. The Japanned Partners Desk is finished all around with three locking drawers on both sides. The middle drawer slides all the through for access from either side for larger documents and can be locked from both sides for added security.
