About the Item

Small mid-century desk in amboyna burl from the Parisian cabinetmaking firm Speich Frères, active between 1900 and 1940. This unique piece of furniture, a testament to the expertise of master cabinetmakers during the Decorative Arts period, boasts contemporary and avant-garde lines for the time. This desk features a glass top covered with taupe-colored tapestry, matching the concave front of the piece. Along the edge, two drawers are fitted with white Art Deco-style pull handles. The base is made of thick panels covered with amboyna burl leaves arranged in an open book fashion. They form wide molded feet at the top. Two stained wood bases, carved with waves, support the whole piece. This desk is stamped: "SPEICH FRÈRES 230 Fbg. St Antoine PARIS" as proof of attribution. ******** Period: 1930 Excellent condition after restoration in our cabinetmaking workshop. Varnished finish.
