This exceptional Befort Jeune Louis XV style 19th century marble top mahogany sceretaire desk with bronze mounts is something to be seen! If you look at the photos provided, you can see that the door that opens down to become a writing surface exposing a shelf and drawer for storing your personal belongings as well as 2 additional drawers at the bottom. In addition, there are figural paintings adorning the desk. This piece is perfect for any living room, bedroom, office, or place of your choosing, all while bringing a sense on luxury and class into your home! The desk is stamped "Befort Jeune" In each corner underneath the top Which can be accessed by unscrewing the top from inside the desk and removing the marble and then the top. The secretaire is in good antique condition with normal age related Surface scratches, a few chips to the painted plaques and very minor finish loss and wear but otherwise in good condition!
Befort Jeune was a famous Parisian cabinet maker during the 19th century and was the son of the famed Jean-Baptiste Befort who was also a cabinet maker. Befort Opened his first shop which was located in Paris at the Faubourg Saint Honoré in 1817 and was known for making pieces for Napoleon III and Empress Eugenie. He specialized in making pieces in the Renaissance, Boulle and Louis XV styles.

This extremely rare and Important 18th Century Louis XV Red Chinoiserie Bureau de Dame Desk By Pierre Migeon is absolutely breathe taking! Pierre Migeon (1696-1758) Was one of the most prominent furniture makers of the 18th century and was known for for his impeccable quality as well as his ability to work with a variety of other extremely well known cabinet makers of the 18th C. Throughout his career a few very important people took a liking to his works and commissioned pieces from him such as Madame de pompadour and the Master of the Revels! Highly important and palatial Napoleon III Louis XV Revival Ormolu-Mounted Marquetry Bonheur Du Jour by Charles Guillaume Diehl, Designed by Jean Brandely, The Marquetry by E. Varlot, Paris. The rarity & importance of this magnificent piece cannot be overstated, it is without question one of the finest examples you will see. Originally commissioned for European nobility as a statement of love and marital grandeur. Incorporating the finest & rarest veneers and timbers of the time, including Harewood, Thuya, Purpleheart, palm wood and tulipwood.
The beautifully shaped ormolu gallery on the top, gracefully curving outwards inset with fretted heart shapes highlight the incredible attention to detail that flow throughout this majestic piece. The upper section set either side with ormolu mounted fluted pilasters, aside two doors both individually set with masculine & feminine central marquetry panels of the most supreme quality, as you would expect from the master E. Varlot. The colors incorporated in the inlay are outstanding to behold, simply perfection. Opening to reveal the double top & bottom lock, engraved with Diehl's mark and address. Internally veneered in Rosewood of the richest color with one shelf. With two drawers below the doors, both veneered on the inside with Sycamore, one fitted for inkwells. The ormolu edged writing flap again centrally set with both a male & female figure now seated, holding hands with the lady holding a Mandoline, a true sign of happiness & love. The writing flap opening to reveal the original richly tooled velvet leather surface. The stand with one central frieze drawer, again lined inside with rosewood and with a top and bottom lock. On ormolu-mounted fluted legs.
This grand Museum Quality masterpiece is in excellent condition for its age.

A very fine and large French 19th century Louis XV style ormolu-mounted mahogany and kingwood three-drawer bureau plat attributed to Paul Sormani (French-Italian 1817-1877). The shaped rectangular top enclosing a gilt tooled brown leather writing surface within a molded border above a long central drawer enclosing a fine modeled mask of Hercules wearing the Nemean lion pelt centered by flat cast encadrements and rosewood veneered a quatre faces flanked by two short drawers with reticulated escutcheons of scantly clad frolicking putti and doves over gadrooned "C" scrolls, trellis patterned panels on a stylized shell within similarly framed encadrements raised on elegant cabriole legs surmounted by bearded satyr masks ending in acanthus case hairy paw feet beneath sides centering bacchic masks. Lock mechanism stamped W S M, 6068, a key (lacking skeleton key), and 148. Veuve Paul Sormani Et Fils was the widow of the highly esteemed furniture maker Paul Sormani (French-Italian 1817-1877). After his death around 1877 she and her son took over the management of the company continuing the tradition of producing fine French furniture of the highest calibre. An escutcheon and several mounts were examined on the reverse, and each was found to have the bronze master model initials "SJ:. Blue chalk inscription on underside Glle 117, Paris, circa 1880.
