About the Item

Poul Nørreklit desk model GP 160 by Georg Petersens Møbelfabrik, Denmark Poul Nørreklit GP160 Desk for Georg Petersens Møbelfabrik, Denmark, 1960s Rosewood, Lucite, Aluminum, and Nickel Dimensions: 67" W x 31.5" D x 28.5" H A striking example of forward-thinking Danish Modern design, this rare Model GP160 executive desk by Poul Nørreklit is a bold exploration of material and form. Designed in the late 1960s and produced by Georg Petersens Møbelfabrik, this piece showcases Nørreklit’s modernist vision and experimental spirit—standing apart from his more conservative contemporaries. The desk’s architectural frame features two monumental slabs of crystal-clear Lucite as side supports, a daring choice that visually suspends the richly figured rosewood case and creates a sense of lightness and tension. The case appears to float between the Lucite, connected by sleek aluminum spacers. The three drawers are faced with brushed aluminum and finished with minimalist nickel-plated pulls, delivering an industrial contrast to the organic warmth of the rosewood. The materials feel fresh even today, and the design clearly anticipates the American Lucite trend of the 1970s, pioneered by designers like Charles Hollis Jones. Nørreklit’s use of Lucite in this context was revolutionary for Danish furniture of the era, which typically favored more traditional hardwood construction. While his peers—such as Arne Vodder, Ib Kofod-Larsen, and Børge Mogensen—focused on refined forms in teak and oak, Nørreklit pushed the boundaries by incorporating cutting-edge materials and radical juxtapositions. His designs have always appealed to collectors who appreciate the intersection of Danish craftsmanship and Mid-Century experimentation. This desk is ideal as a statement piece in a modern office or gallery-like interior. Whether placed against a wall or floated in a room, the GP160 offers sculptural presence from every angle. It remains one of the most collectible and rare examples of Nørreklit’s work, and an exceptional find for those who seek the unconventional edge of Scandinavian Modernism.
