About the Item

This filigree patent secretary, also known as a folding travel desk, is made of mahogany veneer and is decorated on the edges with fine thread inlays of boxwood and ebonized fruitwood. When closed, the front of the secretary reveals a beautiful ink drawing of a natural landscape. Therefore this piece of furniture becomes a work of art while not in pracitcal use as a desk. Opening the flap top reveals a desk surface lined with green, gilt-tooled leather. Three wooden envelope compartments above the writing surface provide storage for stationery. The lower two shelves are removable. The desk rests on two legs standing on four original bronze casters. The hinges, lock, and key are also made of bronze. This table is a decorative and unusual piece. It makes a perfect addition to any room as a temporary workstation and becomes slender when closed after use. Its compact size makes it particularly suitable for small spaces. The work surface (51 cm x 44 cm) is ideal for using a laptop or putting down documents and notes. It can also be used in the entryway as a shelf for the guest book.
