French 19th Century Louis XVI St. Mahogany, Kingwood and Ormolu Desk

About the Item

An elegant French 19th century Louis XVI st. mahogany, kingwood and ormolu kidney shaped writing desk. The desk is raised by slender circular tapered fluted legs with fine foliate topie shaped sabots, foliate top caps and richly chased fitted chandelles. Above each leg are beautiful block rosettes centering three drawers. Each drawer is decorated with a beautiful Coeur de Rai band. The outer drawers display graceful berried laurel pulls while the central drawer displays a striking and finely detailed pierced ormolu mount of charming cherubs playing and eating grapes. The back and sides display most decorative recessed kingwood panels with beautiful cube parquetry framed within an exceptional Coeur de Rai ormolu band. Above is an elegant gold tooled leather writing surface framed within a kingwood border and mottled ormolu gallery.
