A French Directoire Style Ormolu Parquetry Bureauplat, Early 20th Century
Provenance: Private Australian Collection.
Description:
The rectangular top of parquetry finely inset with silver tooled leather and bordered by a brass band, to the front a marquetry panelled wide drawer, centred by a simple brass escutcheon, flanked to either side by a short drawer, each with an ormolu mounted frame, garland and wreath adornments surrounding a further brass escutcheon, the rear frieze with conforming mounts and feigned drawers, a floral boss to each table corner above a further ormolu garland and wreath mount at the head of each tapered and canted square section leg, raised on square socle and bun foot.
