French Mid 19th Century Transitional St. Kingwood, Marble, and Ormolu Secretary
About the Item
A lovely French mid 19th century Transitional st. Tulipwood, Kingwood, ormolu, and Brèche Violette marble secretary desk. The desk is raised by fine cabriole legs with elegant pieced foliate ormolu sabots below the scalloped apron. The base displays two doors which open to reveal their original top to bottom lock, one shelf, and are decorated with foliate ormolu keyhole escutcheons and beautiful quarter veneered panels framed within lovely scrolled foliate inlaid designs also repeated at the drop down front and sides. The drop down front opens to reveal its original hardware and original fitted gold tooled leather writing surface, two drawers with fine ormolu pulls, and one shelf. Above is the original Brèche Violette marble top with an elegant mottled border. All original gilt throughout.

The secretary is raised by most elegant slender cabriole legs with beautiful finely detailed foliate sabots and scrolled foliate corner mounts. At the center is one drawer with fine ormolu pulls and a striking pierced foliate family crest shaped keyhole escutcheon.
