George III Red Japanned Writing Desk/Side Table with Chinoiserie Scenes
About the Item
An outstanding bow fronted George III writing desk/side table, red jappaned with applied chinoiserie scenes.
This stunning desk sits on tapering square legs and has three fitted drawers, the drawer handles are later, one of the handles has a small loss.
Dating to circa 1780, there are marks and wear commensurate with age, and an old timber shrinkage crack in the top, this is an absolutely gorgeous piece of Georgian furniture.
The applied chinoiserie features traditional village scenes of people, birds, gardens and foliage.
