About the Item
This walnut desk by Ico Parisi, was produced by Fratelli Rizzi Intimiano, Brugnoli Mobili Cantu, in 1959 for a private commission. It is documented in the Ico Parisi Archive and comes with a certificate from the archive. It has Wonderful hand hammered drawer pulls and a relaxing foot rest. It is pictured on page 431 of Ico Parisi Design Catalogo Ragionato 1936-1960 by Roberta Lietti for Silvana Editoriale. It is described as below in the
catalog.
"This walnut desk has a rectangular desktop, the corners of which are cut at 45 degree angles. It is held up by a structure formed by the legs slotting into the four under-desk supports at perpendicular angles. The legs are rectangular at the ends but milled in the center, joining flush with the desktop. A wooden beam slots into the two legs, joining them together, while a long, central slat connects the two pairs of legs, doubling up as a footrest as well as supporting the chest of drawers. This has an open-faced compartment and two drawers, the fronts of which are slightly setback to enable the user to better grip the everted section of the long curved handle in burnished brass. Several versions are known to have been made. One of these features a table top covered with burgundy leather. with four corners cut off to leave the wood exposed. a simpler version was also made, with drawers with inset handles or small metal handles."

20th Century Ico Parisi Wooden Writing Desk with Two Drawers, 50s
By Ico Parisi
Located in Turin, Turin
Ico Parisi was born in Palermo, Italy, in 1916, but as early as 1925 with his family he moved to Como, where in 1936 he graduated as a building surveyor and served an apprenticeship at the Terragni studio. Discharged from the front in 1943, he returned to Como and resumed his design activity, dealing with the creation of individual furnishings, exhibition layouts and interior architecture. He collaborated with Luisa Aiani, whom he married in 1947 and with whom he opened the studio La Ruota. In the 50s he designed furniture, first in one-piece and later for Industrial Production with companies such as Cassina. In the 60s, with the "Contenitoriumani" he began a new path aimed at defining a utopian-existential IDEA of living. The culmination of his research is between 1974 and 1976 with "Operation Arcevia," aimed at designing an entire Community.
