Inlaid Teak Writing Desk from India
About the Item
A beautiful writing desk, handcrafted in India out of aged teak wood and responsibly sourced animal bone inlay. Late 20th Century (1990-1995). Narrow apron, bottom stretchers in H pattern, two vertical and one horizontal.
Inlay is an ancient decorative technique that involves embedding delicate, hand-carved pieces of bone (in the beginnings it was ivory or ebony) into the surface of an object, generally wood. The result makes for a striking pattern, floral or geometric, of contrasting colors and materials that make these pieces truly unique.
Other than the slight imperfections inherent to hand made artisanal furniture, the table remains in very good condition, but it shows slight wear signs mostly due to age, which can be seen in some slight cracks on the top surface. These small separations do not affect the stability or the finish. Please see pictures.
