About the Item

This one-of-a-kind Italian desk in walnut with brass details is a rare and authentic piece of craftsmanship from the 1940s–50s. Handmade rather than produced in series, it combines walnut with finely worked brass accents that highlight its refined, architectural character. The clear geometry and balanced proportions reflect the rationalist spirit that still influenced Italian design in this period, while the warmer materials point to the more luxurious direction of the postwar years. The walnut has developed a deep cognac-like tone over time, warm and vibrant, full of character. Its surface recalls the timeless quality celebrated in the work of George Nakashima, where walnut is valued not only for its function but also for its living presence and natural beauty. Slim 4 mm brass rods run vertically from top to bottom on both sides, adding rhythm and a subtle sense of luxury to the piece. This detail gives the desk its distinctive 1950s elegance — refined, sophisticated, and full of character. The construction is modular, with the top separating from the side compartments and the central support. This makes the desk safe and straightforward to pack, easy to handle, and practical to ship. It is also a versatile piece: equally suited to stand against a wall, or to be placed freely in the room as an executive desk. With brass detailing on both sides, it presents a finished appearance no matter the angle, making it ideal to face into the room. A one-of-a-kind desk, rare to the market and a true statement piece for discerning collectors.
