Italian Rococo Revival Writing Desk, Late 19th Century

About the Item

Italian Rococo Revival Writing Desk, Late 19th Century This charming Italian Rococo Style painted writing desk, likely dating back to the late-19th century, showcases a delicate floral motif against a light blue painted wooden frame. The piece features a drop-front desk surface, which opens to reveal a small compartment and four drawers on either side of central cubby. Cabriole legs and hand-painted floral designs complete the look, adding a touch of whimsy and old-world charm. The desk bears a "Made in Italy" tag, suggesting its origin which looks to have been added later. The desk's cabriole legs, asymmetrical floral designs, and light color palette are all indicative of the Rococo style. While similar styles like Baroque and Neoclassical share some overlapping features, the overall lightness and playful nature of the painted decoration point towards a Rococo Revival influence, rather than the more structured Baroque or the stricter lines of Neoclassicism. Condition: Signs of wear consistent with age and use, including some scuffs and surface scratches, and minor imperfections in the finish. Some separation to the frame in areas. Piece retains its structural integrity. 43" wide x 17.75" deep (closed) x 37" high overall
