Mid-Century Modern Italian Executive Desk with Sculptural Base

Writing desk, Macassar ebony veneer, aluminum, Italy, 1960s This mid-century modern desk, designed and produced in Italy, reflects the essence of post-war European design principles during the 1950s and 1960s. Made from polished aluminum, the base features a concave structural design that is both elegant and sturdy. The base is defined by a graceful inward curvature that creates a concave profile when viewed from the side. Each support curves downward before splitting into four round contoured splayed legs, forming a cross-shaped base for stability. The concave shape gives the impression of lightness and fluidity, counterbalancing the solidity and angularity of the desk top. The top is rectangular and expansive, offering a generous workspace that aligns with the functional needs of mid-century office furniture. Two integrated drawers are subtly embedded beneath the surface, maintaining the desk’s minimalist look. The drawers are perfectly flush with the underside, creating a seamless design with no visible joints or interruptions. Metallic pull handles, small and understated, add a touch of functional detail while preserving the overall sleekness of the design. The top is crafted from Macassar ebony, known for its rich, dramatic grain patterns. The surface displays a striking interplay of deep chocolate brown and lighter caramel-toned streaks.
