$5,385.93per item

About

Inspired by a Classic Scandinavian secrétaire, this contemporary desk / bureau by Swedish architect and designer Per Soderberg provides a striking element for a range of interior settings. Handcrafted in Sweden, the piece can be used as a desk, a console or a bar unit. With four inner compartments for further organisation, the brass fronted unit features a flip door with brass fittings and a matte black valchromat frame. Functional and elegant cross legs in powder coated metal. The bureau is made to order with a wide range of colors and materials. It can also be customized. Launched in 2010, the No Early Birds (NEB) collection by Swedish architect and designer Per Söderberg is a furniture collection made out of a limited number of elements. Sprung from the designer's ambition to create a table base that would be both elegant and functional and without the impracticability of one leg in each corner, the now iconic metal cross leg was designed. Together with the circular screw head fitting in solid brass it has become a trademark for the NEB range. Today, these two design elements can be found in almost all NEB pieces, creating instant recognition and representing the simple philosophy behind the collection: "The design principles I developed for the first table where naturally applicable to other types of furniture. This simplicity is not only a design issue, but it also enables an effective manufacturing process with few components and a few selected suppliers. That is something that the NEB collection has in common with other iconic design classics that where designed during the postwar era and that are still produced today." — Per Söderberg. Stockholm born designer Per Söderberg is trained at Domus Academy in Milan, Italy, and is much inspired by Italian design such as Gio Ponti and Carlo Scarpa. The NEB collection combines the simplicity and functionalism of Scandinavian design with the sophistication of Italian elegance. Since his return to Stockholm and after establishing his own design studio in 1997, Per has led numerous interior design projects for shops, offices, restaurants and private homes. International clients include Moschino, J.Lindeberg and famous Swedish glass manufacturer Orrefors to mention a few. The NEB collection is handmade in Sweden with eco-friendly, sustainable materials and production methods. Since its launch in 2010, No Early Birds has has been exhibited at the Stockholm Furniture Fair, Maison & Objet in Paris, London Design Festival and at the Salone del Mobile in Milan. It has been published in a large number of magazines.

About the Maker

No Early Birds

In 2007, Per Söderberg felt that something was missing in his own home; a functional table for multiple uses. It needed to be a table for dinners with family and friends and of course a beautiful, personal piece of furniture. Per decided to approach the project with focus on the table base, aiming to design a sturdy table without the impracticability of one leg in each corner. Through experimenting with numerous prototypes, Per came up with the ingenious, elegant cross leg solution, providing excellent balance and natural grace. Second challenge: the fittings. The table should be hassle free to transport and assemble. The solution? A fully visible and decorative screw head fit- ting that has become a trademark for the New Early Birds range. Today, these two design elements can be found in almost all No Early Birds pieces, creating instant recognition and representing the simple philosophy behind the collection: “The design principles I developed for the first table where naturally applicable to other types of furniture, it was not planned that way, but it became apparent when I started experimenting with the cross leg and the circular fittings. This simplicity is not only a design issue, but it also enables an effective manufacturing process with few components and a few selected suppliers. That is something that the No Early Birds collection has in common with other iconic design classics that where designed during the post-war era and that are still produced today.
