Temporal Collection, Limited Edition, Marble, Glass, Steel Desk 'Exercise 2'

About the Item

"Exercise 2" desk is part of the collection 'Temporal', commissioned by the Machado Muñoz Gallery in 2016. Where the other pieces in this collection aim to go beyond their physicality and are loaded with meaning, these two pieces represent the opposite exercise; They are objects before becoming objects, embryos of a process still to be defined but already capable of performing their function. using what are usually considered temporal unions to create this function, and with the minimum intervention over the material, Muñoz Muñoz defines two objects that search for a high qualitative level using the minimum quantitative action to create structure. The resulting desk is a startling mix of raw, industrial materials that come together in a refined and funtional piece. The 'Temporal' collection is based on the concept that starts with the following facts retrieved from United Nations open data about production and consumption in Spain: Average kilos of asphalt produced by second; the amount of copper tube that we consume; the water volume used by person every day in Spain; and the amount of metres of cable stolen per hour. This data is transformed into objects for this collection, TEMPORAL, where Lucas Muñoz Muñoz translates that information into volume and quantity of material, creating a series of furniture in which the form is defined by these material/ time equivalents. Decontextualizing this information from graphics and abstract numbers in newspapers and locating it in a human space, he materializes, in the living room, the footprint of our presence as citizens and consumers in the world. From an observationist point of view, Muñoz proposes design as a Trojan horse to infiltrate information in the domestic realm. This collection is the result of a deconstructive design dynamic in which concept and context are driving forces for exploration and for the definition of our domestic objects' morphology. Limited Edition of 8 pieces + 1 prototype + 2 A.P (Artist Proof).
