Jean Prouvé Compass Direction Desk Limited RAW Steel and Natural Oak by Vitra

About the Item

Jean Prouvé Compass direction desk in natural oak and clear lacquered steel for Vitra. Originally designed in 1953, Prouvé's iconic desk is based the design on the structural principles for which he is known. Common to all of them are the slender, elegantly splayed legs, which call to mind the hinged arms of a compass – 'le compas' in French. The oiled solid wood table top gives Compas Direction an individual touch. With its compact dimensions, the desk is ideal for the contemporary, largely paperless home office. This is the desirable Vitra limited RAW edition, in natural oak with a clear lacquered steel (metal brut) frame. No longer available in this most desirable combination of materials. Marked with label, packed in the original box. Jean Prouvé was a French industrial designer and architect who lived from 1901 to 1984. He was known for his innovative use of materials and his emphasis on functionality in his designs. Prouvé was also an advocate for the use of prefabricated structures, which he believed would allow for greater efficiency and affordability in construction. His designs ranged from furniture and household objects to large-scale buildings and even bridges. Prouvé's work continues to inspire and influence architects and designers around the world, and he is considered to be one of the most important figures in 20th-century design.
