Vittorio Introini Rare Sculptural Fiberglass Desk for Saporiti Italy

About the Item

This sculptural free-standing desk was designed by the Italian designer Vittorio Introini. Due to its all-white design and the distinct shapes, this desk has a strong sculptural look. The desk embodies a striking play of different layers and shadows, reminiscent of a landscape. Under the main part of the desk, four drawers with slightly angled fronts allow you to store your belongings. Rounded corners, the slightly tapered legs and the rare design, result in a playful character. The desk should be placed free-standing in a room, since it features wonderful details from all sides. It really engages the viewer to admire the desk from all sides. During the 1960s, advances were made on using plastic as a Material for furniture design. Thanks to styles such as the Pop-Art and the Space Age, more designers opted for this unusual Material which gave them the possibility to produce a one-piece product. In Italy, injection-molding techniques found a lot of popularity to manufacture bright and colorful furniture. Especially injection-molded, glass fiber reinforced plastic was a newly common substance to achieve the funky, fun designs inspired by the Space Age. In this case, Introini also opted for the use of fiberglass to create a playful desk that uses the advantages of this new Material. This desk was produced with a small number of items. Vittorio Introini (born 1935) was an Italian Post-war designer. He started designing furniture around the 1960s, being mostly inspired to create international and antihistorical artworks. Moreover, the importance of spatiality and architectural elements is well represented in the work of Introini. These features are also visible in the desk. The designer's ambition to create an international and avant-garde style was eventually possible when he was able to collaborate with Saporiti Company.
