About the Item

Rectangular board table decorated with a strip of vegetal motifs on the outer edge, waist enhanced with carved bands with oval and vegetable motifs of classicist influence and legs decorated with an elegant cabriolet shape and carved motifs (scrolls, bows and simple vegetal themes that are they extend through the waist of the furniture) topped by very simplified claw shapes holding balls. This cap on the legs also appears in Chippendale examples and in American works and, apparently, was a theme inspired by works from the Far East, replacing the leg of the dragon with the sphere by a lion (thus showing the English supremacy) and making it very popular in England during, approximately, the first half of the 18th century, and recovering later." Mahogany and Metal Extensible Dining Table. England, 19th Century
Located in Madrid, ES
Rectangular table extendable by panels and mechanical system manually operated by crank, made of carved mahogany wood and metal elements (leg ends, mechanism, sheaves). The top board has been left smooth, with a slight recess towards the edges that curves the area and extends through the corners of the piece of furniture, contributing to the comfort of its use as a dining or conference table; The legs present an outstanding work of carving and turning, with a stipe shape and a memory of architectural columns for its combination of moldings, highlighting the polygonal base and the fact that it retains the wheels or small metal sheaves that help to move the piece of furniture. Both the wood chosen for the table (mahogany), and the lack of decorative elements (which enhances the quality of the material and the lines) are common features in the old English furniture...
