About the Item

This is a fabulous high quality dining set comprising an antique flame mahogany Regency Period metamorphic triple pillar dining table and a set of ten Regency dining chairs, all circa 1820 in date. The fabulous high quality antique flame mahogany Regency Period metamorphic triple pillar dining table can seat 10 people in comfort. It is raised on three bases, each with four sabre legs that terminate in brass cap castors. The table can easily be converted from a ten seater dining table into a pair of console tables and a drop flap pembroke table by removing the clips. The pembroke table is fitted with a useful drawer. The superb set of ten Regency flame mahogany dining chairs, comprises two open armchairs and eight single chairs, each with leaf carved top rail and cross section above upholstered over stuffed buttoned seats and raised on fluted tapering legs. The seats have been reupholstered in a beautiful Moore and Giles tan leather,. It is rare to find such a fabulous and comfortable set of chairs and they enhance the dining table beautifully. There is no mistaking the fine craftsmanship of this handsome dining set which is certain to become a treasured addition to your furniture collection, and a talking point with guests at meal times. THE BOTANICAL NAME FOR THE MAHOGANY THESE ITEMS ARE MADE OF IS SWIETENIA MACROPHYLLA AND THIS TYPE OF MAHOGANY IS NOT SUBJECT TO CITES REGULATION. Condition: In excellent condition the table and chairs having been beautifully waxed and polished and the chairs reupholstered in our workshops, please see photos for confirmation. Dimensions in cm: Height 73 x Width 241 x Depth 111 - Fully Extended Height 93 x Width 45 x Depth 45 - Side Chairs Height 93 x Width 59 x Depth 54 - Armchairs Dimensions in inches: Height 2 foot, 5 inches x Width 7 foot, 11 inches x Depth 3 foot, 8 inches - Fully Extended Height 3 feet, 1 inch x Width 1 foot, 6 inches x Depth 1 foot, 6 inches - Side Chairs Height 3 feet, 1 inch x Width 1 foot, 11 inches x Depth 1 foot, 9 inches - Armchairs Flame Mahogany Thomas Sheraton - 18th century Furniture designer, once characterized mahogany as "best suited to furniture where strength is demanded as well as a wood that works up easily, has a beautiful figure and polishes so well that it is an ornament to any room in which it may be placed." Matching his words to his work, Sheraton designed much mahogany furniture. The qualities that impressed Sheraton are particularly evident in a distinctive pattern of wood called "flame mahogany." The flame figure in the wood is revealed by slicing through the face of the branch at the point where it joins another element of the tree.

A handsome English 19th century Regency mahogany dining table with the original crank. The table is raised on four square tapered legs decorated with maplewood fillets with the original brass casters. The straight mottled apron is decorated with an elegant kingwood fillet. Each of the two original extensions have aprons and display the same decorative fillet. The table opens and closes by turning the crank and when open reveals the original hardware and mechanism signed 'Joseph Fitter'.
