About the Item

This is a magnificent antique Victorian mahogany D-end dining table circa 1850 in date and 12 baloon back chairs. This beautiful table is in stunning solid flame mahogany and can seat twelve diners in comfort. It has three original leaves, 2x 60cm and 1x 56cm, which can be added or removed as required to suit the occasion using the wind out mechanism.. It stands on four elegantly carved and turned legs that terminate in elegant brass and porcelain castors. The superb set of set of twelve Hepplewhite Revival dining chairs are hand crafted from solid mahogany. The set comprises ten side chairs and two armchairs, all of which feature an attractive shieldback design and 'drop in' seats that are upholstered in the finest blue damask fabric. It is a very impressive dining set which is sure to contribute to successful dinner parties. THE BOTANICAL NAME FOR THE MAHOGANY THESE ITEMS ARE MADE OF IS SWIETENIA MACROPHYLLA AND THIS TYPE OF MAHOGANY IS NOT SUBJECT TO CITES REGULATION. Condition: In excellent condition having been beautifully cleaned, polished waxed and the chairs reupholstered in our workshops, please see photos for confirmation. Matching his words to his work, Sheraton designed much mahogany furniture. The qualities that impressed Sheraton are particularly evident in a distinctive pattern of wood called "flame mahogany." The flame figure in the wood is revealed by slicing through the face of the branch at the point where it joins another element of the tree.
