About the Item

This is a beautiful dining set comprising an antique William IV flame mahogany dining table, Circa 1830 in date, and a beautiful set of eight vintage Regency Revival Bar Back Dining Chairs. This amazing table can seat eight people in comfort and has been hand-crafted from solid mahogany. The beautifully figured flame mahogany top is rectangular with rounded corners and has four leaves which can be added or removed as required to suit the occasion by a special winding mechanism. The leaves can be easily removed and stored away when not required. The table is raised on four hand carved turned and reeded tapering legs that terminate in their original brass and porcelain cup castors An absolutely fantastic English-made Vintage set of eight Regency Reviva dining chairs dating from the late 20th century. These chairs have been masterfully hand crafted in beautiful solid flame mahogany throughout and the finish and attention to detail on display are truly breathtaking. The beuutiful set of eight Regency Revival side chairs all feature an attractive bar back design with hand carved decoration and 'drop in' seats that are upholstered in the finest olive green suede effect fabric Whatever the function of this gorgeous dining set, it will make a profound impression on your dinner guests and will receive the maximum amount of attention wherever it is placed THE BOTANICAL NAME FOR THE MAHOGANY THIS ITEM IS MADE OF IS SWIETENIA MACROPHYLLA AND THIS TYPE OF MAHOGANY IS NOT SUBJECT TO CITES REGULATION. Condition: In excellent condition the table and chairs having been beautifully cleaned and polished in our workshops, and the chairs reupholstered, please see photos for confirmation. Matching his words to his work, Sheraton designed much mahogany furniture. The qualities that impressed Sheraton are particularly evident in a distinctive pattern of wood called "flame mahogany." The flame figure in the wood is revealed by slicing through the face of the branch at the point where it joins another element of the tree. Winding Mechanism for extending tables Winding mechanisms have been used since the early 19th Century. A man by the name of Samuel Hawkins applied for a patent on a screw expander on June 6th, 1861. Presumably, Mr. Hawkins either died or retired because his business was taken over by a young machinist named Joseph Fitter in 1864. Joseph Fitter operated a machinist shop where he produced winding mechanisms for extending tables as well as screw expanders for piano stools and other applications at 210 Cheapside, Birmingham England by the name of Britannia Works.
