About the Item

An outstanding Art Deco table of excellent quality dating from circa 1930 purchased from a family in Belgium who recalls it was designed by De Coene The table has the most exceptional and iconic base with an inverted stepped base to a champered pedastal foot The foot is clad in a plated brass. This plated in a base metal with a hammered finish The top is squares of inlaid parquetry in deeper mahogany and rosewood and some Madagascar square inlays. Ultimately the veneer throughout is of a paler satinwood or fruitwood The table was built to extend and does so on a series of interior stretchers. However there are no centre leave as these would have originally been for seperate purchase. This table was considered large enough by the original purchasers to never require extra leaves As a dining table it currently seats 6 on 2 carvers and 2 stand chairs The chairs are also veneered in satinwood. They have been upholstered at a much later date in blue velvet striped upholstery. The upholstery is fine but I do feel the chairs should have been finished off beneath the seat pads. There is evidence of some strengthening brackets in wood being added to some chairs over time. The table is really the main focus of attention, it is truly beautiful. The chairs an added bonus. The table also has additional legs which swing up underneath to support the end leaves when drawn out. If you wanted to fully extend and have leaves made it does extend to a full 13ft 4" Unextended it is nearly 6ft 5ft 9. The mechanisms used to lock everything in place are beautiful pieces of engineering The width is 125cm about 4 ft 10 The height is 76cm There is a small section of beading missing one corner (2nd to last pic), a few slivers of missing veneer (last pic) and the odd scuffs expected on antique furniture It also makes an ideal board room table. A unique item of Art Deco design beautifully presented.
