About the Item

Very beautiful Set of 6 napkins and matching tablecloth in 1900s/1920s damask linen with a single letter in white and red monogram. The embroidery is very delicate. Damascus is also very beautiful. Art Nouveau / early Art Deco - French manual work. Each napkin and the tablecloth are made of linen damask, thread, and monogrammed with the letter M in the center: the letter M is embroidered in relief with a red border. The tablecloth has the monogram twice. The monograms here are very finely hand-embroidered and surrounded by red "fleur de lys" (Lily Flower) at each end of the letter. The border of the letter is red to give volume to the monogram. The napkins measure 85 cm x 70 cm ( 33.46 inches x 27.56 inches) The tablecloth measures 230 cm x 172 cm (90.55 inches x 67.72 inches) This very beautiful set of old linen from the beginning of the 20th century is very delicate and refined. The red embroidery at the edge of the monogram is very rare. The napkins and tablecloth are very elegant and refined. Damask is a silk fabric, monochrome, with a satin weave, characterized by a contrast of shine between the background and the design formed by the weaving. Damask or damask is a fabric whose designs are woven and not embroidered. These two methods are not mutually exclusive. Indeed on the sheets, tablecloths and damask napkins, the monogram of the masters of the house is often embroidered. In the case of damask and as opposed to embroidery, the designs are discreet. There can only be two colors in damask fabrics: that of the weft thread and that of the warp thread. But most damask linens and fabrics are single-colored.
